Tough Cases: Working with Resistance, Unwillingness & Overcompensation l Online Interactive Workshop l January 2023 I Schema Therapy Scotland
Tough Cases: Working with Resistance, Unwillingness and Overcompensation in Schema Therapy (1 day; 6 hrs)
Dates: 2024 (Dates TBC)
Cost: £130 if paid upfront in full (or £170 via invoice)
Who is this workshop for? This workshop will be suitable for schema therapists who wish to fortify their practice with clients whose behaviour actively interferes with effective therapy. These clients can present with a range of challenging behaviours in the therapy room including lack of motivation, anger, criticism and denigration of the therapist.
Workshop Content:
Ever had that feeling of dread when you look in your diary or wished that a certain client would not turn up? Cases where collaboration can be especially difficult to establish because of barriers such as anger or counter-attack are among the hardest to navigate. They are also some of the most triggering for therapists; activating our own schema and modes which in turn prevent us from providing effective therapy. This workshop will focus upon conceptualisation of and mode work with these tough cases. Strategies to enhance therapeutic leverage, bypass anger barriers and empathically confront and set limits on therapy-interfering behaviours will be covered. Participants will be encouraged to explore their own schema and mode activation and to consider robust ways of responding, grounded in their Healthy Adult mode. A combination of didactic and experiential methods including video, role play and live demonstrations will be used to facilitate learning.
